Counseling Services for Crime Victims Through Texas Crime Victims’ Compensation
Experiencing a crime can have lasting emotional, psychological, and relational effects. Many victims struggle with anxiety, depression, grief, trauma-related symptoms, sleep disturbances, feelings of fear, and challenges in returning to a sense of safety and normalcy. Our practice is committed to providing compassionate, professional counseling services that help crime victims heal, recover, and regain hope for the future.
For eligible victims of violent crime, counseling services may be covered through the Texas Crime Victims’ Compensation (CVC) Program. This program, administered by the Texas Attorney General’s Crime Victims’ Compensation Program, helps reduce financial barriers to treatment by covering approved counseling services related to the emotional impact of victimization. Our practice works with eligible clients to access these benefits so they can receive the support they need during the recovery process.
We provide trauma-informed counseling for adolescent and adult individuals who have been affected by crime. Services may address the impact of domestic violence, sexual assault, physical assault, homicide survivorship, child abuse, robbery, human trafficking, and other violent crimes. Treatment is tailored to each client’s unique circumstances, strengths, and goals, creating a safe and supportive environment where healing can occur at a pace that feels comfortable.
Referrals for Victims and Victim Service Agencies
We welcome referrals from victim advocates, crisis centers, district attorney offices, law enforcement agencies, hospitals, shelters, schools, and other organizations that serve crime victims. Our goal is to partner with community agencies to ensure victims have timely access to quality mental health services. We understand the importance of responsive communication, collaborative care, and helping victims navigate the counseling process with dignity and respect.
If you are a victim seeking counseling or a professional looking for a trusted referral resource, we invite you to contact our office. We are available to answer questions about counseling services, discuss eligibility for Crime Victims’ Compensation benefits, and help individuals take the next step toward healing and recovery. No one should have to face the aftermath of crime alone, and support is available.
Why Seek Counseling After Victimization?
Healing from the effects of crime often involves more than physical recovery. Counseling can help victims process traumatic experiences, manage emotional distress, strengthen coping skills, improve relationships, and restore a sense of control and empowerment. With the right support, many individuals find renewed resilience, hope, and confidence as they move forward in their lives.

How it Works
Step 1: Apply for Crime Victims’ Compensation
Complete an application through the Texas Office of the Attorney General’s Crime Victims’ Compensation (CVC) online portal. This application determines your eligibility for benefits that may cover the cost of counseling. You can complete this online, or have a crime victim advocate assist you.
Step 2: Request Out-of-Network (OON) Authorization
Because contract therapists with Diagnosing Hope: Therapy and Consulting, LLC are out-of-network counseling providers, you’ll also need to submit a request for out-of-network benefits along with your CVC application.
To make this process easy, we’ve provided two letter templates:
Parent/Guardian Out-of-Network Request Letter –
for parents or legal guardians requesting counseling services for a child.
Adult Client Out-of-Network Request Letter –
for individuals seeking counseling for themselves.
Simply complete the appropriate template and upload it with your CVC application.
Step 3: Submit Our Referral Form
Once you’ve submitted your Crime Victims’ Compensation application and Out-of-Network request, complete the Referral Form located at the bottom of this page. This allows our team to begin reviewing your information, monitor the status of your referral, and prepare for the next steps in the intake process. A member of our staff will contact you once your referral has been received.
Step 4: Complete Your Intake Paperwork
After we receive your referral and your benefits have been approved (or are in the final stages of approval), we’ll send you our secure intake forms to complete before your first appointment.
Step 5: Be Matched with a Therapist
Our team will thoughtfully pair you with a licensed therapist who has experience providing trauma-informed care to crime victims. We strive to match each client with a clinician who best fits their needs, preferences, and circumstances.
Step 6: Begin Your Healing Journey
Once your intake is complete, you’ll begin counseling with your assigned therapist. Sessions are personalized to support your recovery, build resilience, and help you move forward after experiencing crime.
Step 7: We Bill Crime Victims’ Compensation Directly
There’s no need for you to submit claims after each session. Diagnosing Hope: Therapy and Consulting, LLC will bill the Texas Crime Victims’ Compensation Program directly for approved counseling services, allowing you to focus on your healing rather than paperwork.
Step 8: Continue Therapy as Needed
Eligible clients may receive up to 60 counseling sessions through the Crime Victims’ Compensation Program. If additional treatment is clinically appropriate, your therapist may request an extension from the Crime Victims’ Compensation Program based on your ongoing treatment needs.
